When your family is shopping for anything that uses a lithium-ion battery, there’s an important safety step: look for a special mark! Products that have been tested for safety will have a mark from a testing lab, like UL, ETL, or CSA. Think of it like a safety superhero stamp of approval.
Why does this matter? Some products that are sold online or in stores haven’t been tested properly. They might look fine on the outside, but they could be dangerous. Products with safety marks have been checked by experts to make sure they won’t overheat or cause fires.
Before buying a new tablet, e-bike, hoverboard, or power tool, check the box and the product itself for one of those safety marks. If you can’t find one, it’s better to choose a different product. You can help your parents look for these marks when you’re shopping together.
Remember: the safest products are listed products! When we buy smart, we stay safe.
