What Are Lithium-Ion Batteries?

Have you ever wondered what powers your tablet, phone, or remote control car? Many of our favorite devices use special batteries called lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are amazing because they can be recharged over and over again, which means we don’t have to throw them away and buy new ones all the time.

You can find lithium-ion batteries in lots of things around your home: laptops, cordless vacuums, e-scooters, wireless headphones, and even some toys. They’re super helpful, but just like any powerful tool, we need to use them safely.

This week is Fire Prevention Week, and Sparky the Fire Dog wants to teach everyone about being safe with these special batteries. When we take care of our batteries the right way, they work great. But if we don’t follow safety rules, they can get too hot and even start fires.

The good news? Staying safe is easy when you know what to do! This week, we’ll learn three important things: how to BUY safe products, how to CHARGE them correctly, and how to RECYCLE batteries responsibly. Let’s charge into fire safety together!
